Nope not a post about Britney...yet!

Oh, It's coming.... because you know me and the Britster...

First Thursday's soundtrack:

1. Wild, Wild, West ---Escape Club
This song kicks so much ass. It makes no sense, but I love it anyway. Australians love a good rock song with dumb lyrics.

2. Autobiography--- Ashlee Simpson
Don't judge me! She's a hell of a lot better than her sister. And say what you want, this is a great song.

3. Queer--- Garbage
1998 Anyone? Great "vamp" song. You can totally get your supermodel walk on to this.

4. Hazy Shade of Winter---Bangles
A good song because it's chicks rocking without that Susanna Hoffs singing.

5. She's Electric---Oasis
In my opinion, their best song. It's got their own sound and great lyrics. Nt that Beatles wannabe crap they tried to sell america 10 years ago.

Ok, I already posted this on CafeMom. If you've read it there just back-click and wait for the post on Britney.

Below I have posted an article that just about made me hurl my waffles. I don't tend to get on my hi-horse about much, because I'm relatively shallow, but this just makes my blood boil.
Dare I say, it even makes me feel like a feminist. My decision to become a lawyer is rooted in situations like this one. I can't speak for your community, but here in Dupage County, IL if a woman needs to get away from an abusive spouse or situation, the resources are next to nil. We have a service that will help you obtain a restraining order, and give you a list of shelters and lawyers. That's about it.
While some would argue that at least it's something, I think there is a huge demographic missing a helping hand. Personified by the disappearance of both Stacy Pertson and Lisa Stebic. In my opinion the middle class are desperately under-served socially. Long story short, because I could go on for days about this, women in the income bracket of 50K-75K are most at risk of dying by the hands of their spouse.
Why? Because in these households, a compelling percentage of them are one income, multi children ones. Women abused in this dynamic are not employed and probably have not been employed for at least 2 years, have 2 children under the age of 5, have no control over the finances, and have been isolated to the point that their support system is rather small. Combine that with the shame and secrecy domestic abuse brings along with it.
Most women would not want to subject their small children for a stint in a shelter, homelessness, and poverty. They feel their priority is to meet the needs of their children. It would be selfish to subject them to any hardship to benefit them. I don't think in these circumstances anybody could fault a woman that feels that way. Is it right? no. But only a mother would understand the turmoil.
I have to say, I became passionate about this cause about a year ago with the disappearance of Lisa Stebic. All of a sudden I became angry and sick of seeing mothers and women meeting their demise at the hands of someone who would rather "win" than seek a divorce. When did child support and alimony become so unbearable that murder was the only option?
So my life's mission had become to start a REAL foundation to get these victims the help they need. Housing, childcare, jobs, legal help, counseling, protection, etc. Not a piece of paper with names and numbers, but actual help. They can show up on the doorstep and we will take them in as sort of a "witness protection" program. Make life bearable and successful enough that they never feel that returning back to a bad situation is ever an option.
OK, Soapbox over. Read the article below and see if it insights a riot within you as well.

Former Illinois Sgt. Drew Peterson wants to divorce his wife who vanished more than three months ago, The Herald News reported on Thursday.
“Yeah, but I don’t think I can for a year or so,” Peterson told the newspaper about his divorce plans.
Stacy Peterson disappeared in October and is believed to be dead. Peterson is a prime suspect but insists he is innocent.
“She ran off with another guy,” Peterson said, according to the newspaper. “It’s that simple.”
“First we have to see if she shows up,” he told The Herald News. “Then I think we have to wait for a year.”
The ex-cop told the newspaper he would not mind getting legal advice from Chicago attorney Corri Fetman, who is expected to appear in Playboy magazine and has promoted her practice in racy billboard ads, according to the paper.
“If she wants to go out for drinks, give me a call,” he told The Herald News.
Peterson’s third wife, Kathleen Savio, died under mysterious circumstances in 2004, when she was found in a bathtub. Her body was exhumed for further forensic analysis, and officials have reclassified her death as a “homicide staged to look like an accident.”

Why I love Message Boards....

Freaking hystercial....

I've never contributed to message boards until the whole Stacy Peterson case broke. And now I'm like a damn addict. It's funny. It is totally a lifestyle. I've been on the Greta Van Susteren board for a few weeks and here's a quick synopsis of what that looks like...

I would say there are about 45 regulars or so, consisting of mostly women in their 50's, about 10 local housewives (myself included), 3 men, and for the most part its us playing Nancy Drew and bouncing facts, opinios and theories off eachother. Pretty mundane stuff, butt occasionally you get the post...

"hi so and so, how's your 134 cats? did you get my Chicken pot pie recipe I emailed you yesterday?"

Cracks me up. Here we are sifting through evidence, etc running forensic experiments in our basements, and that random stuff pops up.

Another personal favorite?

"Hi, I'm new here so forgive me if this has already been posted, but isn't there a Starbucks in Bolingbrook?"

Then the usual answer,

"Yes so and so. Nutty McGetalife posted at 12:06am 10/30/07 that there are currently 3 Starbucks in Bolingbrook. I have posted a link on google earth for you to view. DUH!"

And finally...the TROLLS.

I love the trolls! There the guys...usually. Probably sick of the dishes piling up in the sink and laundry not being folded that get on the board and post things like....

"Drew is innocent. there is no body. Can't arrest a guy for wanting a younger piece of tail."

This gets the henhouse a buzzin! within 90 seconds there are 300 posts screaming at the troll. A googlemaster has tracked his ISP to his house and the hens are organizing an attack.

I love it...it's great fun in the burbs.

The Stacy Peterson Case

I am a woman obsessed. Since 10/28/07 I have lived, ate, and slept this case. I can attribute this to a lot of things. I lived spitting distance to these people up until August. Our kids are about the same age and played at the same playground ( not together). I'm still in my 20's with a much older husband...I could sit here all day and wax similarities, but it detracts from my point.

Everyday I sit here at my desk reading message boards, posting my 2 cents of info as a local, my extensive knowledge of the law ( via Court TV law school). I look for possible clues everytime I leave the house, etc. Never in my life have I wished for a case to be solved.

Sure, I was into OJ when it happened, Scott Peterson, etc. but I was young then and really only in it for sensationalism and drama. But this case is different. I feel for the kids, the sisters, the friends, the family.

All the while there is this idiot and his idiot lawyer calling everybody "crazy" and unreliable, etc. Today Drew Peterson's lawyer is discounting reports of truckers allegedly being approached by Peterson as wanting to sell their stories to tabloids.

yup. they all want to be Britney. Every trucker wants to get out of his big rig and be met with flashes of truck stop paparazzi.

Oh ick...there's a visual, crotchographs and big sunglasses and Lindsay Lohan.

Anyways..I digress.

There's a saying that if it doesn't make sense it is probably not true. Truckers wanting a National Enquirer payday doesn't make any sense.

I have my Jr. Sleuth ideas and speculations. I can see all sides of this saga.

Have I been 23 and wanted to run away from a less than ideal life? Yes.

So much so that I would vanish without a trace? No. Especially if I had people to go to and confide in.

Can I see why a 23 yr old that feels stuck may reach out to a guy via text messages and emails? Yes. Absolutely. When circling the drain, you will do anything to pull yourself out of it an make yourself feel better.

I could go on for days. I GET everything Stacy did. Even if it so happens that she ran off to Mexico to decompress and shows up I will get that too. You make the best decision you can at the time.

But something about Drew Peterson screams predator.

Of course the sensationalist in me feels that you want justice almost immediately. But just this past weekend there was a HUGE vigil right outside his house and neither he, his family or Stacy's KIDS attended. Sure, even if you believe she ran off with another man (with only her bikini, 25K in cash, bedsheets and a nightstand) aren't you worried that she hasn't called in 5 weeks? Nobody has seen her?( Except in Peoria, not where I'd head BTW). He seems to have this "oh well" attitude that gets under my skin and makes me want to throw a shoe at the TV. Sure be mad at her for leaving, but get on TV and give interviews, don't plead the 5th in the Grand Jury, use your resources and connections to FIND HER. You are about to go down for murder and she took off leaving you with 4 kids!

Don't go on TV and tell the world she was unstable with PMS, and how much you spoiled her. Then bring reporters into your house and show them how great your kids are doing. 2 of them lost 2 mothers, and the other 2 won't even know theirs. Sickening.

We all know the story. It's just that for the first time I am truly heartbroken over a widely publicized case. Everytime I see her sister Casandra on the screen I have the simultaneous feeling of 'you go girl' and sadness for her.

Anyway, let's hope for more news. I just wanted to put in my 2 cents.

See, I think I am genius and should have my own 1-hour cable news show. For God's Sake GERALDO is on the air still. But since even Fox News isn't calling I'll just spew the commentary and the awesomeness here...
